As part of our writing program and in the interest of showing our students the power of their voice in public policy, the entire school embarked on a letter writing campaign for funding for a much needed Stoughton High School. As the culmination of our efforts, State Representatives Bill Galvin and Louis Kafka and State Senator Brian Joyce paid a visit to the South School on December 20, 2013. They were treated to a very informative assembly that featured a selection of students from each grade reading their letters, a question and answer panel consisting of students and the legislators and a slide show of work by the kindergarten students. Also in attendance were School Committee member, Deborah Sovignee, School Committee Chair, Joyce Husseni, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Rizzi and Jeffrey Pickette, representing the Stoughton Media Access Corporation. All of the students did a terrific job, both those participating in some form and those that paid such respectful attention to the gathering. The highlight of the event was definitely when Senator Joyce promised that there would be no homework assigned over vacation and some extra recess!!. After the assembly, the legislators were treated to a tour of the South School.
