BOKS help kids get physically active. Building Our Kids Success!
Based on the premise that active kids lead to active minds, BOKS is involved in a multiyear research study with National Institute on Out Of School Time (NIOST) to determine the effectiveness of BOKS. The most recent results for 2013 are now in, and based on a study of 570 children we found that:
Parent volunteers are Maureen Huminik, Paul Urman and Dan Mathers. Gratitude to you all for helping make BOKS a reality and for getting kids active throughout the South School. www.bokskids.org The program will need parent volunteers for the fall 2014 session! Students in Mrs. Johnson's 3rd grade class wrote book reviews and "swirled" their words into heart shaped paragraphs. Additionally, they painted hearts using watercolors to decorate our hallway bulletin board. Beautiful writing and artwork!
As part of our community service, students collected items for the local food pantry during the month of January. We made it a contest to determine which grade collected the greatest number. Grade 3 was the winner with 168 items. Second grade was a close second accumulating 157 items. The South School PTO is donating School Store coupons to all 43 third grade students. Thanks to parents and staff for your kindness and generosity for the donation of 690 items. |
