Conceived by the South School Student Council, it is a way to put a little fun and spirit in our learning days. Wacky Wednesday provides a fun opportunity to get a little crazy. It proved to be a great success as many South School Students embraced their inner wackiness!

The 5th grade was recently treated to a presentation by a couple of Bryant College students (one is not only a former South School student but a former student of Mrs. Mulvey). This presentation was part of a larger project that the students were scheduled to present the following day in New York City. The college students taught the 5th grade a little about marketing, gave them some supplies and had them create their own product and marketing campaign. The students rose to the challenge and created some great products and campaigns. One group even incorporated the new Justin Timberlake song in its campaign, complete with vocals. We welcome former students, such as Alexandra Cohen, to come back and share their college and work experiences. It motivates our current students to continue working work in their studies.
Much learning and much fun took place one recent Thursday afternoon as the South School. Math Liaisons, Ms. Gabriels and Mrs. Russell hosted a math afternoon for students in kindergarten through grade 2. Teachers on the AIM team worked with the Math Liaisons planning the opportunity for students to experience math in a fun and relaxed environment. If you get a chance, please check out our new South School math page on this website. It's chock full of links, ideas and other mathtastic things!
Recently the kindergarten, first and second grade students at the South School, led by Ms. Bauman, put on a wonderful concert. The concert was lively and melodic and enjoyed by all. The students performed twice, once for their fellow students and once for invited family and friends.
Square One Art forms were sent home yesterday. This year's theme was a self portrait. All the students put forth their best effort to create some lovely self portraits. This is part of a fundraiser for the school and there are a variety of items that are available for purchase including travel mugs and coasters: Key chains and tiles: Mouse pads and potholders:
Shown below is Mrs. DeMayo's grade 2 students in their classroom with Ms. Pires' fifth graders. They are studying geography together. The lessons involve traveling continent by continent, focusing on three different countries and studying the culture from each country. Last week students focused on the continent of Europe and learned more about England, France and Italy. The fifth graders are helping students to find information about languages spoken, sports played and famous landmarks, as well as locating the countries on a map, and coloring the flags for each country. Happy Travels!
