In addition to language arts, mathematics and science, Social Studies is a curricular unit in each of our grades. Grade 2 focuses on world geography. Soon they will connect that knowledge to their heritage projects. Sivannah shares her love of continents and interesting facts with me on the stairs of the stage. Her aunt bought her the book and she enhanced her class study by sharing it. The book is so well written, I hope to purchase copies for all second graders in next year's budget. Grade 4 studies geography with a closer and more in depth examination of the 50 states. Leading up to it is the Landform Project that students from Miss Asztalos' class proudly display. I had a chance to listen to their oral presentations and was so proud of their ability to speak publicly, accurately and extensively because of their research using the classroom iPads.
Students and staff at the South Elementary School know exactly what it means to give! More than 1,677 items of food were collected during the month of March and donated to two local food pantries! Members of student council made posters, announcements and were led by Miss Drumm and Mrs. Shute in collecting and boxing the foods. Mrs. Johnson third grade class and Mrs. DeMayo's second grade class were the top collectors! Thanks to the whole South community!
Mrs. Mulvey will keep the community connected to various news and events through blog postings.
