South Elementary School students and staff enjoyed holiday events throughout the month to celebrate customs and traditions. Included were concerts, art projects, pajama days and Festive Holiday Mug Giving. One Friday was Dress up in Favorite Holiday Outfits. Or if one was feeling silly and competitive, as many teachers were, they wore ugly holiday sweaters. Below left, Madison was a decked out in "a super cute" outfit. Sivannah (below right) enjoys changing her stuffed dog into a reindeer. Teachers: Mrs. Corrente, Miss Rosenthal and Mrs. Slagen take 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the Ugly Sweater Contest. On the Tuesday before vacation, under the direction of Miss Mulkern and Mrs. Waterman, all students played Reading Bingo winning books, pencils and bookmarks. Lindsey Mitchell and John Costa won the Kindergarten grand prizes of a plush Fancy Nancy and a stuffed Froggy to accompany their PTO donated paperbook backs!

Here is just a small selection of the 163 cards that the students made to send to Addie Fausett in Utah as part of the South School Student Council's December Service Project. The thoughtfulness and creativity of the cards that so many of the students created to help grant this little girl's Christmas wish is remarkable. Thanks to Mrs. Shute and Ms. Drumm for coordinating the project as Student Council Advisors.
South School PTO sponsored a winter craft afternoon during the Early Release time when teachers attend professional development. Special thanks to parents, caregivers, and former South School students for making it a festive event for our students!
