Each month the South School Math Liaisons, Mrs. Sherri Russell and Ms. Jessica Gabriels, coordinate an estimation station. Students k-5 are to 'estimate' in mathematics. This month Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Kalianiotis and Mrs. Webster, designed a clever challenge using marshmallows to represent snowballs in a jar. Olivia, a kindergarten student, recently estimated that there were 4o0 marshmallows in the jar. When asked how she derived her "guesstimate" she answered " I thought in my head how many there were." Other students are photographed as closest winners to the actual amount of 325 znd received math pencils on Friday!
