Thank you to Daddy's Dairy, Wendy's, and the South PTO for contributing prizes to Battle of the Books.
It is no mystery who the winners are! Dylan, Michael, Jaice and Sarah's team won the Jeopardy Game. All fourth and fifth graders read, took notes, competed and played on the battlefield with peers! The books were The Westing Game, Who Stole the Wizard of Oz and From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler

The Hochbergs hitched a ride to school in a police cruiser!
Matthew and Eli won the donated raffle from the Stoughton PD during the fall Pumpkin Patch. Mrs. Hochberg led the fleet of 4! This is a quote from the winning essay for the recipient of the Science Summer Camp Scholarship that all the teachers from the South School help sponsor. As you can see, it is a check with the value of $347!
“I also think science is like a rocketship. The rocket ship is the science and I am in it. The fuel is teamwork, listening, thinking, good attitude and more. When the rocket ship launches, it takes us through a fun and challenging learning adventure.” This student also wrote and presented a campaign with suggestions for how we can help the environment with a display poster that is in the office. It gives me great pleasure to announce third grader Miss Lillianna Branco as the winner! Two very special people who have been a part of the South School Community for 6 years were honored on Flag Day.They are generous in spirit and actions… whether collecting and sending in recyclable materials for art classes, snow plowing a neighbor’s driveway or just being so very positive, supportive and friendly each time we meet.
What makes this couple so unique is their dedication and devotion to raising their grandson, Dylan Cowden. They have unselfishly loved and supported Dylan through the 6 years at the South School. We can all learn from your ways! They are Mr. and Mrs. Paluzzi, the grandparents of fifth grader, Dylan Cowden. Thank you for your dedication. South School had an extra special day with perfect weather and lots of water games. Mr. Carty organized the day so well and we appreciated all the parent volunteers, too!
Look at this beautiful creature Ms. Bauman and her South School friends found outside this morning during morning recess! The K-2 scientists were so excited to observe it, and it sparked a lively debate about whether it was a butterfly or a moth. It measures almost 7 inches wide!
We think it might be a polyphemus moth -- see link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antheraea_polyphemus Thanks for investing, Mrs. Devlin! Mrs. Varnum, mom of Katrina and Mrs. Shane, mom of Harrison, shared these photos from our third grade field trip to Boston including the Freedom Trail, Paul Revere's House and Old North Church. Students made us proud as their tour guides complimented Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Wallace as having the best behaved and most knowledgeable students that they can recall! Our PTO donated those vibrant blue t-shirt to help keep everyone together on the streets of Boston!
Students in grade 4 get ready to walk. Third graders proved their stamina! Kindergarten students were active participants! Miss Barry's class ran the last lap. Student Council members designed encouraging signs and students paid a quarter to quench their thirst!
