Fourth graders at the South School in Girl Scout Troop 65159 learned about conserving resources and saving energy as part of their Get Moving Journey. We were delighted, as students and staff, to be the chosen recipients of their very artistic and bold colored bookmarks. Reminders such as using low-flow faucets, using fluorescent light bulbs, turning off the water when brushing teeth, walking and not driving, and charging devices on airplane mode were some of the messages received. We will do our best! SCOUTS' HONOR!
Do you ever notice how professionally the teachers are dressed at the South School?
Then on Fridays, if we opt to dress down by wearing jeans, we pay a dollar to the "JEAN JAR"! Because we value science so much at the South School, we then use the money to pay for a full 2 week summer science scholarship for one student entering grade 3, 4 or 5 next fall. This year the open construct prompt is: Which science lesson, field trip, in house science program, family science activity, or enrichment course has made an impact on you? Did the experience change your thoughts in any way? Did it make you want to study science in college and make a career in this field? Submit your essay to Mrs. Mulvey by Tuesday, May 26th to enter your name in the contest as a Science Winner of the $347.00 Scholarship. Camp occurs from July 6-17th in Canton. The winner will be announced at Flag Day on June 12th. Below are photos of South Student Scientists... Be sure to check out the South School Backpack and register for Knights of Summer at the OMS from July 13 to August 13, 2015. Slots are still available!
Chef Aurelien, a South School dad and Reebok Corporate Chef,
has generously given us time to teach an after school Creative Cooking class. 30 students learned about knife safety, clean food preparation, conversions of measurements, whisking vinaigrette, nutrition and how to 'stabilize' a cantalope when carving its rind. A delicious fruit salad was the final take home product! |
