The very generous South School PTO has donated a book for every student in our school. Each book contains a nameplate recognizing the Parent Teacher Organization that supports literacy projects such as this. During the week of March 2nd in celebration of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America, students will select a "just right" piece of literature or informational text for keeps. THANK YOU PTO!

Second graders celebrate the 100 th day of school as 100 year old people! Gray hair made with baby powder, grandma's pearls and Papa's suspenders made the outfits! They said they were too tired to go to class!
Below first graders' 100 day projects are so creative. They are displayed outside of Mrs. Russell's classroom. Fourth Graders in Mrs. Doherty's class showed me their math problem solving skills in real life time. They were challenged to create a restaurant menu that included stipulations such as all entree prices needed to end in an even number and all desserts had to have 9 cents. Using their individual iPads, they researched realistic costs of drinks, entrees, side dishes and desserts from local restaurants. Together they created a guest check and calculated how to split the bill equally. Some worked in groups and others chose to work individually. What a great integration of math, technology, research and oral communication skills!
They have futures in marketing! First Graders in Mrs. Russell's class wrote about who is worth melting for... Their words touched our hearts.
Snow removal takes place on the roof as the snow theme prevails inside the school. Scientists in Mrs. Slagen's class constructed anemometers. Artists in Mrs. Jarasitis' and Ms. Corrente's classes made snowmen. Writers in Miss Barry's class told about snow adventures.
Indoor recess has prevailed during these frigid days, so Mr. Carty challenges Mrs. Jolley and me to play PinBall with the second and third graders. "Wow, says one child. You really don't throw like a girl!" He will watch his words next time! Below we show off our favorite valentines from Lucy. The card reads, "You Rule!" Rulers decorate the card. What a clever way to celebrate, calorie free! Student Council members sold Happy Hearts for 5o cents. Below are 2 special ones from Amy, Amanda and Ben. ~I look forward to attending Miss Mahoney's wedding this weekend. ~My favorite pizza is Denneno's pizza in Stoughton. ~My favorite comedy tv show is Modern Family. ~One son graduated from Stonehill College and the other from Masssachusetts Maritime Academy. ~I taught grade one with Mrs Johnson 14 years ago! These are the 5 clues that the students in Mrs. Johnson's room received in order to 'infer" who the mystery reader was today. Tommy thought is might have been his mother after hearing clue number one and then realized his brothers haven't graduated from college yet. Mia connected to Denneno's Pizza as being delicious. Braden Strott knew it was I, Mrs. Mulvey, coming in to read. Mrs. Johnson invites parents, family members and teachers to select a story to share. Students try to guess the mystery person using the hints that are submitted. I shared some family stories and a photo about my brother who always acted like the storybook character, Curious George. Students learned how classic stories can become perennial favorites. We concluded it is great to be curious because that is how we learn.
